[Rulings—and indeed, attributes of Allah the Exalted—may appear in the Sunnah that are not mentioned in the Qur’an]
Imam Muhammad bin Aman al-Jami (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
(The Salaf held the view that the Sunnah clarifies, elucidates, and interprets the Qur’an; indeed, the Sunnah is the best interpretation of the Qur’an—second only to the Qur’an itself. Furthermore, understanding certain matters stated in general terms in the Qur’an may depend entirely on the Sunnah. Rulings—and indeed, attributes of Allah the Exalted—may appear in the Sunnah that are not mentioned in the Qur’an; therefore, it is obligatory to accept both sources without attempting to separate them, for the Sunnah is revelation from Allah in terms of its meaning. We have witnessed how the Salaf devoted themselves to the Qur’an—reciting it, memorizing it, and dedicating themselves to its interpretation and comprehension—while implementing its rulings, deriving principles for rational inquiry from it, and drawing upon it for truths regarding the Unseen realm.)
